We woke up on Saturday morning and headed to the airport (yes we were then less than 24 hrs ago) to get our rental car. I was SOOO excited to be riding in a car with Tripp - JUST THE TWO OF US. What a luxury this is! We got our sweet Mazda rental (with no trunk) and headed to Half Moon Bay.
Tripp looked over at me and said "Did you ever think we would be renting a car and driving in CA?" Ummm no.
We're here! Half Moon Bay is only a short 30 min from the airport. Our first stop was to eat lunch at Sam's Chowder House.
Tripp got fish n chips and said it was the best he's ever had! I was so happy because I always feel a little pressure to nail the restaurant choices I suggest after my research ;)
It was gloomy and chilly outside when we got to the restaurant so we sat outside, but then we walked out back after lunch and it was sunny.
We could check in at our bed & breakfast, the Mill Rose Inn, at 3pm so we headed there after lunch. On our way, we passed the Beach House Hotel which is another place we looked into.
We're here!!! :) I warned Tripp this place was an old-school B&B and we would probably be the youngest there. Loved the flowers everywhere.
Our Room - the "Baroque Rose" Room. Wallpaper and brass everywhere ha.
The sheets on this bed were DIVINE. I had heard people say that during my research and was skeptical... but it was so true.
Oh how I miss living with him.
We laid around the room and then headed to the Ritz Carlton-Half Moon Bay to hang out at the Ocean Terrace for the night. We found some chairs that looked out onto the golf course and the cliffs... It was so chilly, but overall peaceful and relaxing. We went around 4:30pm since that was when the hot chocolate and smores bar opened :)
A little pano action :)
Looking back on the terrace... I felt like I was on the Revenge set the entire time.
We started with some champagne... and then ended up at the hot chocolate bar. The hot chocolate was seriously the best either of us has ever had. The smores kit was a whopping $35, so we decided to pass on that.
Topping choices...
Tripp was super embarrassed to valet the Mazda at the Ritz ahhaha. He wanted to park far away and walk, but I was not on board with that. It was a humbling experience to say the least :) We definitely enjoyed our time at the Ritz!
We got back to the Mill Rose Inn and got ready for our date in the jacuzzi :) There are time slots to reserve and I signed us up for both nights. Here was Tripp in his robe hahahah!!
Looking out from our room down to the jacuzzi.
There were flowers and lights everywhere! We played some music on the iPad and talked and soaked it up.
By the time we got out, it was dark. Cutest hot tub I've ever been in!
On Saturday morning, we slept in. Had breakfast delivered to our room and took our time getting dressed. It was gloomy and misty outside, so it wasn't good weather for the beach. We walked around Main street in some shops where we decided people in HMB are not very friendly. Then... girl got hangry, so we went to Half Moon Bay Brewing Co for lunch.
After lunch, we drove around a bit and looked at the beach.
We took it easy the rest of the night... we got back in the jacuzzi and headed to Taco Bell. Tripp saw the sign earlier in the day and was SOOO excited to have normal fast food, so I was game.
We ate T-Bell in bed, watched Step Up and went to sleep. That's TWO movies in TWO consecutive nights. Not sure what got into my husband, but I was LOVING it!!
Woke up Sunday morning and checked out. I went around the front of the B&B to get some pictures before we left. If it had been sunny, we would have enjoyed sitting out in this area... but it misted the entire time we were there. No sun.
This was in the dining room, where they had desserts 24-7. We definitely visited this a few times.
Overall, we ranked the Mill Rose Inn a 4/5. Half Moon Bay was kind of a let-down on the food and activities side because it was cloudy+misty the entire time, but overall... it was a relaxing weekend outside of the city and that's what we needed.
Our last stop in Half Moon Bay was to visit the Fitzgerald Reserve Tide Pools. We looked on the website for the low-tide time which was at 11am.
We walked along the rocks and looked in the water for creatures. Parents and little kids were everywhere! I heard kids shouting "an-en-nemities!!" It was adorable. We didn't see any starfish or crazy creatures, but definitely saw some stuff in the water.
Blue jelly fish everywhere.
We took the scenic route on the way home - Highway 1. We got out and took in the views off the cliffs. Amazing. We are planning our big trip to Carmel/Big Sur and this was such a tease!! I cannot wait.
Happy Memorial Day 2015! :)
