All three nights we went to bed BY 10pm. It was heavenly. Friday morning, we woke up around 9:30am and got ready and headed for our first day of seeing a new city. I had done some research before our trip and since Allison had to work on Friday, we decided to hit up the tourist activities on Friday.
First up, Pike's Place Market. AMAZING. I would go here every weekend if I lived in Seattle. It wasn't too crowded and everything was worth stopping to look at.
The famous part where they yell and throw the fish! The fish were huge.
We had an accordion playing in the background as we strolled through thanks to this kind fella.
We also hit up Starbucks quite often during our weekend trip - it was born in Seattle, we had to. LOOK at these adorable cookies. I wanted one realll bad.
Can you see how excited he is to explore?? ;)
Another seafood place.
Perfectly organized fruits and veggies.
I tried to some hot pear apple cider - yummmmy.
The flowers. They were so beautiful. Color everywhere - I loved it!
This little piggy stands at the front of the market entrance. Woo pig ;)
Next we headed to the waterfront to ride the ferris wheel - the Seattle Great Wheel.
The individual gondolas that you ride in are pretty roomy! You pay for 3 trips around. I think there were a total of 5 people on the wheel when we rode. We drove by the wheel on Saturday and it was packed. Friday is the way to go.
This is looking down towards the Century Link Stadium (Seahawks) & Safeco Field (Mariners) - the buildings that have the arches.
Apparently I was extra into Tripp this trip because I took a lot of solo pics of him :) He's wearing his Lululemon shirt here and I love it.
Right over the water.
Tripp made me take a pic of this since it had my name and the letters IV. He believes this is a sign that we will have the 4th - as in a son who will be named Jesse Vescon Hollowell. I may or may not be in a different place, so he thought this was a sign :) We'll cross that bridge later.
Next up was lunch at Pike's Place Chowder - again, right in an alley off the market. It was AMAZING. HIGHLY recommend. Best chowder ever. Tripp got the claim chowder and I got the chicken & corn chowder. Both so so good. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather.
A view of the other end of the Market.
We walked by the original Starbucks! We had already gotten coffee earlier and there was a long line, so we decided to just take a pic of it.
On our way to our next stop, we took a pit stop at Macrina Bakery. I got a cookie. Duh. We sat outside at one of those tables and enjoyed the scenery once again. We took our time and it was awesome.
We decided to walk to the Space Needle and see it rather than ride it since we just got a nice view of the city. It's also pretty pricey ($36ish/person). If we go back to Seattle, we will go up to the top of the Space Needle.
There are plenty of other tourist attractions right next to the Space Needle - these large flowers were right outside of the glass museum.
Next up - we checked out the Starbucks Headquarters. It was a really pretty building! You can see the head from the logo at the very top.
I was hoping we could go snoop around and see some fun stuff, but we couldn't. There was a cafe in the bottom floor so we got some afternoon coffee. I saw that Starbucks was on the 8th floor (which was surprising to me - they don't fill the whole building) and we took the elevator up. There was a Starbucks gift shop on that floor, but that was all you could see without special card access. Boo.
We walked to Safeco and Century Link Stadiums. Tripp was sharing all of these facts about each of the stadiums - I married a total sports nerd.
We walked from the stadiums down 1st Ave to get back to Pike's Place area. It was a great street to walk down. Shops, restaurants, bars galore. This area is called Pioneer Square. It was really quaint and pretty. Allison said that's where a lot of the homeless people are, but we didn't see them!
We were pretty exhausted and ready to get off of our feet, so we headed back to Allison's house. She lives in the neighborhood, Ballard. Her house is an old house with awesome flowers, landscaping. Super cute.
I somehow managed to leave with ZERO pics from dinner. #fail. Allison, her friend Nicole, Tripp and I ate dinner at La Carta de Oaxaca. It was a restaurant that came up to try and Allison + Nicole hadn't been in a while, so we checked it out. We had margaritas and chowed down. The margaritas were strong and the food was good.
Nicole mentioned this fun dessert place called Hot Cakes. I ordered the bread pudding, Tripp got the warm chocolate chip cookie and Allison + Nicole split the creme brulee. My dessert won :) It was fab!
Pic from the street that Hot Cakes is on. Adorable!
We watched TV and then went to bed early after a great first day in Seattle.
