New Apartment!

After an awesome day in Tiburon, we stopped by Beth's desk at Carmel. Beth is from Memphis and helped us find an apt in Carmel last year. We had been wanting to talk to her all week and decided to make it happen before I left.

Our lease on our current apt is up in May. Tripp got a renewal letter a few months ago that was really nice and then dropped a bomb at the end... our monthly rent was going up to almost $4k a month (about $400 more expensive than it is today).

Neither of us felt comfortable about this, given it's just INSANE expensive already... and it was going to get worse. We knew we wanted to talk to Beth about finding another place in Carmel and if not, we would have to possibly look at moving apartment places (which Tripp was pretty against and I get it). I laid it all on the line with Beth :)

She said there was an awesome studio that just became available if we wanted to look at it. It was less expensive than our current apartment today, so we took the key and went to check it out.

When you open the door to the apt...

Walked in and quickly realized we were interested. Here are the pros:

1. It's on the opposite side of the tower, so it will be much cooler in the apt. There is no AC in the building (which is NOT abnormal for SF)... so in our current apt, it will get around 80 in the afternoon when the sun is beating down on it. HOT.

2. It has normal size kitchen appliances. We didn't pay much attention to this when looking for an apt a year ago, but we've learned some things since then. This apt has a kitchen island, a normal size refrigerator, a normal size dishwasher, a stove top and a regular oven. When I say normal size - I mean what we have been used to our entire lives. Holla!

3. More closet space... and double stacked clothes rods. Right now, the main closet in the bedroom is one rod across.

4. A regular bathtub and shower. Again, regular as in what we're used to. It will have a shower curtain and is normal size tub to take a bath in. The current apt has a glass door that comes 3/4 of the way across the shower. It gets dirty and water gets out of the tub.

5. A better balcony and a better view. Current apt looks out on Embarcadero and Alcatraz. This view is of the bay bridge and up Howard. We can put 2 chairs out on that balcony and enjoy the view.

6. Once again, it's cheaper :)

Here's the downside:

1. It's a studio which means it's about 100 sq. feet smaller than our current 1 bedroom and it is all one room. There is no wall that separates the bedroom.

2. The balcony is really close to the other balcony.

We hung out in the apt and talked through everything... went through Tripp's normal day and pointed out any issues. All in all, we were sold. It was so exciting! Major deja vu from a year ago looking at apartments in Carmel before Tripp moved.

We went down to Beth, talked through timing and logistics and took the apt off the market with a deposit. More than anything, I'm excited for Tripp. I think it will be a new, fresh start for him and hopefully an energizer for the rest of the year. I'm really sad I won't be able to help him move and get the apt ready (just like I didn't get to when he moved out there the first time), but his friend Roger will be in town so hoping he will help Tripp and we can work out the timing right.

Looking forward to more memories in Apt 1204! Because he will be in the new apartment before I'm back out in 2 weeks, I had to get a few pics on our balcony. Our last pics together in Apt 1607!
