I slept in until about 9:30am, then we got coffee and Tripp made some parfaits. This is a new obsession he has started and I am all for a healthy breakfast. We had greek yogurt, blackberries and granola. It was tasty!
Tripp wanted to go to lunch at The Grove (the place we sat and had a drink at yesterday in Pac Heights)... and I couldn't blame him - I had been thinking about all of the food we saw yesterday too haha! So we walked a bit down to The Grove Yerba Buena (closer to our apt than the location on Fillmore in Pac Heights).
I love the decor and the fact that your salad comes in a wooden bowl. I had the Apple Chicken salad and Tripp had the French Onion soup.
View of The Grove from outside.
I really loved mine and Tripp's was so-so. He said he wouldn't get it again.
We then took Uber to Clayton and Haight. On our way we saw this nice surprise on the street corner. This was just before she bent over and mooned the cars in front of us. We were laughing so hard.
This allowed us to walk through Haight-Ashbury and then enter Golden Gate Park. One of my co-worker's at SSX used to live in SF and this was his neighborhood, so we wanted to check it out. It was definitely the most eccentric neighborhood that we've been in. Lots of crazy clothes and stores. We probably stuck out like sore thumbs.
Enter Golden Gate Park. I had heard how huge it was... but, it is REALLY big. As in - you have to constantly look at a map to figure out where the heck you are standing. There aren't a lot of signs to help.
One thing that surprised me was that you can drive into the park with a car. It's not all green grass and trees - there are cars everywhere too. So, it didn't feel like a true park to me for some reason. We started walking and there were lots of people laying on blankets... at the front of the park, it smelled like pot and there were a lot of homeless people hanging around.
We started walking into the park and that seemed to subside. Our first actual stop was the Twirl & Dip ice cream truck! I had heard about T&D, and was so excited to try it! Despite just eating lunch (and already convincing Tripp to let us get dessert and pack it to eat at the park later) - I convinced him to let us get ice cream too.
It was FABULOUS. Best ice cream I've ever had. I got soft serve in a cup, dipped in dark chocolate (hard shell) with a sprinkle of sea salt + homemade toffee on top. Tripp got the same thing minus the toffee. YUM YUM YUM.
We then headed to the Japanese Tea Gardens. We wanted to chill on the blanket, so thought we could find somewhere in the gardens or next to the gardens to do that. Not really.
It was $16 to get it ($8/person) and there are only benches around the gardens... most of which were taken. It was definitely pretty and I'm glad we did it - but I think it's overrated. I'd say it's one of those things you do once and you never need to do again :) We did read after we went that the best time to go is March or April because the Cherry Blossom trees are blooming. Oopsies.
We walked a little bit more to Stow Lake. Sat on a bench because we couldn't find any area to put the blanket on the ground and talked. There were people in canoes and paddle boats.... and cute little ducks everywhere. We talked about Tripp's sweet Mamaw for a while and just reminisced a bit. As we were talking, the fog started rolling in and it was CHILLY! I had both of our jackets on and we were ready to get outta there.
We were able to get Uber to come pick us up in the park and headed home. It's quite a trek from our place... 30 minute ride. We learned that we need to go earlier in the day and I think we will have a better idea of what to expect and how to navigate the park next time.
We hung around the apt for a bit, then headed to Perry's for 1/2 price burger night. Our meal was $14! That's typically the price of one meal here... and at lunch, not dinner. That was as much as our ice cream from earlier :/ Cheap and yummy and across the street from the apt - can't complain!
I have to admit that I'm tired and ready to just hang low for the rest of the week working! It's been a fun 3 days, but I'm excited for normal(ish) days with Tripp :)
