January 1 - 6 Weeks Old!
I love waking Davis up from his naps... he is sooooo snuggly. I call him my rollie pollie ollie because his knees are basically at his shoulders snuggled up like a ball. Snoozin' on my chest.
I made cookies. I know - a miracle. Amanda Rogers brought us cookies when she came to meet Davis before Christmas and they were the BEST. I asked her for her recipe and to everyone's surprise - I made them and they were good!
Stop. Wait a minute. ;) Davis sleeping with his hands held up! He is wearing Daddy's old outfit.
This is what Tripp and Howie were doing while I made cookies.
January 2
Today was Davis' best day yet - he followed a great schedule and was SO happy. I think it was because he fed and napped so well! He is hard to keep awake sometimes after he eats, so I usually have to get him naked. Look at that chunky monkey! It is amazing and crazy that he is fully growing from my milk. I am super proud of that!
This was the FIRST bath that Davis didn't cry during once. I have to prep the bathroom and run steaming hot water in the shower to make it hot and comfortable for him. He has started to warm up to baths, but usually when I take him out of the tub and put him in the towel... he cries. It takes like 2 seconds to put him in the towel and get him warm, so he is a tad dramatic ;) Another sign he's just modest like his mama. He's also started a fun routine where he poops before I can take him out of his towel and put a diaper on. Yay!
Our nap routine is that he gets sleepy, I put him in this swaddle that Aunt Cheryl just gave him for Christmas with mittens and lay him down in the crib. He has been going to sleep great!
January 3
Day 2 of following your routine - woop woop! Today we had an outing and those kind of stress mommy out ;) I had my 6 week check up this afternoon, so we decided to dress cute for Dr. Markell!
It was cold outside, so we had to debut our cute owl hat! I dressed Davis in a day gown and cardigan and Tripp was not loving that he was in a "dress," but he knows it's not a battle he wants to fight ;) He can only wear those clothes for a bit longer!
And now all I want to do is eat, mommy...
Davis and I also started reading the Harry Potter series today. My co-worker, Zach Rolle, got us the first two books in large picture format and they are AMAZING! We read during the day and at night and we finished the first chapter. I was secretly really excited to go read some more all day ha! He fell asleep both times :)
Howie laid behind us while we read. Sweet dog. He got his first bath at the groomer today (he is too big for us to bathe him now)!
January 4
Today we had to get Davis' foot pricked again for blood testing because they didn't get enough blood right after he was born. We took a bath to get all clean beforehand and he was such a happy boy! No crabby boy here :)
My mom came over to go with us to the hospital - and we put a hat on him that she got him for Christmas... I mean OMG. My heart could explode!
Sweet cheeks!
Everyone's excited when daddy comes home :)
Davis sleeps every 3 hour cycle except he may or may not after his 7:30 feeding which is fine by us... hopefully he's even more ready to go to bed after his 10:30 feeding. We turn the lights low and quiet down and leave it up to him. He fell asleep on me and it was heaven. So snuggly.
January 5
Davis didn't sleep well all afternoon for naps and it was rough! He was up and down constantly - couldn't get settled... I ate the same thing for lunch and for dinner and was ready for bed early! Daddy got him to sleep after he got home from work... he sure was comfy ;)
January 6
Morning yawns... after a long night :) I swear we take 2 steps forward and 3 steps back! Ohhh parenthood. I'm learning to be OK with inconsistency. My main concern is getting Davis into a good schedule that works well for him and we aren't there yet... but we will get there.
Honey and I took Davis to get a few things monogrammed and it was FREEZING outside, so he worn his cute bear bunting suit. He was cozy! I also used the baby bjorn for the first time when we were in the store and it was good - going to need to practice taking him in and out of it on my own, but I liked it overall.
My parents watched Davis so we could have another date night! Woop woop! We went to Tusk and Trotter - it was delicious. Ended it with a romantic stroll through Target for some things for Davis.
We took a family selfie for the first time before we left to go to dinner :)
Tusk & Trotter on the Bentonville Square
I had an apple cider martini - it was fabulous. I only drank about half of it because I don't like cocktails much with a meal, but it was good!

January 7
I think Davis gets cuter every day. I could NOT stop staring at him in this adorable outfit today. We love the soft brand, Kickee Pants!
January 8 - 7 Weeks Old!
Davis had his BEST night of sleep!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tripp and I are trying not to get too excited because typically when we make an adjustment to his routine and try something new it works once and then we regress the second night. This time he ate at 7pm and 9pm last night and we swaddled with arms in and he slept from 10pm to 3am... ate at 3am and then slept 3:30am to 6:30am. That's the longest stretch of uninterrupted sleep - progress is progress! He also slept good and followed our normal routine today.
We bought a new bathtub that lets him get submerged in water vs. me only pouring it over him - he's growing up! He loved it.
January 9
Welp, we were right... Davis doesn't want to give his parents two nights in a row of better sleep. Oh well, someday! ;) Davis falling asleep as we read Harry Potter this morning. The best feeling is his body snuggled next to mine. Safe and comfy.
An event to remember - we (just Davis and I) went out on our OWN for the FIRST time! Eeeek! We took an adventurous stroll through Target :) I have never in my life just walked through Target for entertainment... times have changed! He looked around the store for a bit and then fell asleep. It was nice!
Tonight was the national championship - Clemson vs. Alabama. My mom came over (dad was out of town) and we ate dinner and watched the game. I went to sleep at 8:30 and Tripp followed soon after before half time. My mom put Davis to sleep so we could get a few hours in a row and it was nice!! He slept good so YAY!
January 10
Changing his diaper this morning - peed all over himself. Look how wet his hair is!
The weather was nice outside - not cold at all - so Davis and I took our first stroll around the neighborhood! He thought it was too bright outside, so he went to sleep and barely opened his eyes the entire time. I will probably be sore tomorrow! It was fun to get out. I feel like my mom status just skyrocketed!
We then hopped in the car and took daddy a surprise latte for some afternoon fuel :)
January 12
Look at those rolls - he is getting chunky!
Warm and cozy in his Razorback outfit from Marnee & Daddy Jay.
January 13
My dad was out of town all week, so mom came over every night to hang with us and eat dinner. On Thursday, she stayed the night and of courrrsseeeeee, Davis had his BEST night so far! He ate at 9pm and didn't wake up until 4am! Ate again at 4am and mom had to wake him up to eat at 7:30am. Woo hoo! We are getting in a good rhythm... I'm starting to see some sleep consistency and that.is.awesome.
Tripp and I went to the Clorox holiday party on Friday night at the Barn at the Springs - it was fun and great to get out.
January 14
Saturday morning, I went to Jazzercise. Tripp made me get out of bed and go and I'm so thankful. I was sleeping in a bit and he said go get out of the house and have some time for you. Class kicked my butt. I grabbed Onyx afterwards and ran some errands. I appreciate these hours more than ever!
At 7 weeks and 6 days old, Davis went out for his first dinner at a restaurant! Tripp and I are always hesitant going out or doing activities when it falls during his feeding... but it takes doing it once, and then we're comfortable. It's the unknown that can freak out the planners in us ;)
We ate at Copelands with Tripp's parents and he did fabulous. He falls asleep in the car quickly usually... and he did tonight too. He slept until we woke him up to feed him at 7.
January 15 - 8 Weeks Old!
Howie joined tummy time today with daddy ;)
Howie licking Davis' foot.
Davis loooooved Rannan ronight! He was smiling so big for him.
Snuggling with his new mirror in the nursery!
January 16
Snuggles with Honey. She can't go 2 days without seeing him ha.
January 17
Davis played with this lovie that has a rattle and actually realized that his movements make it rattle.
Davis loooves his Honey.
January 18
5:30am snuggled in my bed watching Harry Potter :)
As shown in the next 3 pics, Davis slept a LOT during the day today! He was soooo sleepy. I had anxiety all day not knowing how much this would affect him sleeping at night... well, my gut was right - he was up a LOT all night! Tripp was flying to DC for the Inauguration at 7am and we didn't sleep much.
Tripp is loved. Howie, Reggie and Davis allll want his attention (and me of course)!
January 19
After his first morning feeding, I sit Davis up in the boppy facing me and we listen to music and talk to each other while he digests his food and typically poop :) It's like clockwork! He always looks up at a painting to the right and I stare at his sweet profile. Mom, Dad and Rambo slept over last night since Tripp is out of town!
January 20 - TWO Months OLD!
Since Daddy is out of town, we had a day of shopping with Honey! She spent the night last night and let me sleep through the night... it was amazing. Davis chillin' in my bed while I was getting ready.
This was the longest trip in the car with Davis and I had made a list of everything we needed... holy moly, it was a ton of stuff! I was also nervous about the feeding situation since I would have to pump in the car and give him fresh milk... but had it figured out. Well, I forgot to pack the milk I pumped first that morning so I pumped on demand which stressed me out! I was so worried I wouldn't be able to pump enough for the 3 bottles he would need while we were there, but my boobs delivered ;)
Davis was perfect all day. He was such a champ - feeding in the back of the car, getting in and out of the car, strolling around town. He slept off and on, but barely made a peep! This was his first time in an Anthropologie... my favorite store. We had to document :)
Look at that milk on his lips ha!
Facetiming with Tripp at the Inauguration when my mom fed Davis in the back of the car.
January 22 - 9 Weeks Old
Mom stayed with me the last 3 nights while Tripp was gone. She took night duty and let me sleep without interruption. It was so wonderful and I felt much more rested! We got up on Sunday morning and took Davis to church at 10am. To keep him on his schedule, we got to church 30 minutes early and fed him at 9:30am. He did great! Quiet little burps :) He did poop while he was eating, but no one heard it except us ha!
Daddy comes home today and we are sooooo excited!!!
I had to take some pics of him sitting next to his animal friends since his outfit color coordinated :)
January 23
Today, Davis wanted to be held by mommy! I love it more than anything except when I have to pump... it's hard to hold him and make the pump work right. I thought I understood multitasking... motherhood brings on an entire new level of multi-tasking!
These are his new oufits we got in Tulsa :)
January 24
The lower lip shows up everyday ha!
Playing on his playmat that Aunt Mere, Dougie and Claire got him! My goal is for him to play independently for an hour or so every day and he has started to enjoy this so much more. It's so cool to see the difference in how he responds to things as he gets older :)
He was soooo sleepy snuggling with his giraffe.
But also so smiley :)
January 25
Tripp has been so busy with work! He recently got a promotion - gooooo boo! So he is finishing up his current job and starting the new job. Before Davis was born, Tripp was usually home right after 5 and then I would come home after Jazzercise around 7pm. Ironically, he has been busier than ever since right before Davis was born and hasn't been able to get home as early since I've been on mat leave. It stinks... but I know he is doing his best.
Because Tripp is gone all day, he tries so hard to be home by 6pm so he can feed him at 6pm, 8pm and 9:30pm. I obviously appreciate it! I try to squeeze in a bath when he gets home and get a bit of time by myself.
We have figured out the position Davis needs to be in to help him go #2 easily (sitting up against the boppy lounger facing us with his feet pushed against our stomach). It's too funny - you sit him up and keep him still when we anticipate it... and a couple minutes later, it works! :)
I don't have a good picture of it yet, but I want to remember this so writing it down. Tripp will slowly lean in and kiss Davis on his cheek really close to his mouth and Davis has started opening his mouth and sticking out his tounge when Tripp reaches his face with his lips! It's the CUTEST!
January 26
Sportin' our Razorback gear on our stroll around Target today :)
Moments I wish I could video and relive over and over because they are so sweet... When Tripp comes home at night, I'm typically holding Davis and Tripp comes over and we all three hug and he kisses Davis and then kisses me. Tripp also says "I love your mommy", "I love her so much" to Davis and it makes me so so happy.
January 27
I went to our annual company meeting Friday morning and my mom watched Davis. It was the longest I have been away from him since he was born - we both did well! :) We have our annual holiday party that night, but given I'm about to go back to work soon - I didn't want to spend a full day away from him.
During the meeting, mom sent Tripp and I this picture. OMG. Howie found a new chew toy in our backyard apparently... that is our gutter he pulled off the house.
Other pics from when my mom watched him.
Snuggling when I got home that day.
January 28
I taught my first class today! Whew! I was so nervous, but it was awesome. There were 37 people in class and for me, working out on a Saturday morning feels so good! Davis' schedule doesn't change on the weekends unfortunately, so we were up at 6:30am (and had been up off and on since 3:30am when he likes to wake up these days wide eyed). We definitely make the most of our weekend hours ha!
After class, family came over to see Davis! Mary Morgan met him for the first time. Chris (her bf), Aunt Ann, Bradley, Anna and my parents all came over and he was perfect. Everyone loved on him well. I was showing MM pics from his birth that she missed and she was super teary. I am so thankful she is in a better place and is healthy... but that comes with sacrifices. I want her healthy so she can have a relationship with Davis in the long run.
That night, we all met at San Miguels in Fayetteville for dinner. Over 20 people at our table - all to see and love on Mary Morgan. Davis did great again - didn't cry once and stayed awake nearly the entire 3 hours we were there! So proud. I think he likes being out and seeing new things - he just looks around and takes it all in.
This is an outfit Dixie handed down that both of her boys wore. So cute!
Spit up caught on camera!
January 29 - 10 weeks old!
How is my baby 10 weeks old?? Now in double digits?? This can't be possible. Last night, we made a concerted effort to not let Davis come sleep with us after 3:30am... as much as I love having him on my chest, he has to start sleeping in his crib the full night. He's done it a few times, but not the majority of the time. So, we took turns soothing him, letting him cry it out for 10 minutes and then soothing again. He went back to sleep for both of us which was good!
Happy happy boy.
He is sooo sleepy because he was up off and on from 3:30am on... Tripp is trying to burp him here, but he is out like a light. Now the challenge is to keep him up today!
Mary Morgan, Chris and my parents came over so they could see him before they went back to Kentucky.
January 30
Davis slept sooo good last night and so did mommy! Poor daddy didnt :/ He woke up at 3:30am (the usual), but Tripp soothed him for a bit and then he slept until I went in and woke him up at 6:30am!! I have been dreaming about that moment for weeks - waking him up on our time when it was ready for his first feeding. It was bliss!
We finished the first Harry Potter book and now we are starting the second! :)
Today, Jess Hendrix texted me and told me she wanted to talk to me about something. I told her Davis and I were running errands and to call me whenever. She called me when I was sitting in the Fresh Market parking lot and shared that SSX was offering me another FOUR weeks of PAID maternity leave based on new benefits they are offering in 2017... and wanted to extend it to me as well. OR I could get 4 weeks in my Extended Leave Bank to use at a later time. I cannot even begin to explain how HAPPY this made me! An immediate weight off my shoulders and pure bliss at the thought of spending SIX more weeks from today with Davis. In my mind, it wasn't a difficult choice. I will NEVER get this time back with Davis at this age. I want to be here with him as much as possible. I called Tripp immediately and he was so excited and agreed as well. YAY! This makes me return to work on March 13.
Davis' first trip to Fresh Market!
Then, Davis, my mom and I walked around Lake Atalanta - it's newly renovated and it is beautiful! It was such a nice day... and I will always remember how carefree and JOYFUL I felt inside knowing I have more time at home with him.
Snoozin and strollin.
Honey fed Davis on her back deck because it was that nice outside!
Working on that strength during tummy time!
January 31
Davis was soooooo sleepy today. He followed the babywise schedule PERFECTLY, but it was almost too perfect... made me worried he wasn't going to be able to sleep tonight. Every 3 hours... he ate, stayed awake for an hour, got sleepy so I swaddled and laid him in bed awake, and he slept until I woke him up for the next feeding.
I needed to do dishes because we didn't have any clean bottles, but Davis wanted to be held so I tried out the baby k'tan sling. He was out like a light the MOMENT I put him in it and I loved having him that close to me!
We stayed at home today, but we did go outside and watch the dogs play because it was so nice outside!
As I look back on January, Davis smiles and more sleep immediately come to mind ha! We got into a good routine. We had date nights. We snuggled. It was a wonderful month and start to 2017.
Today, Davis wanted to be held by mommy! I love it more than anything except when I have to pump... it's hard to hold him and make the pump work right. I thought I understood multitasking... motherhood brings on an entire new level of multi-tasking!
