To setup our trip, I have to tell you how we were able to make this trip… About two weeks before our wedding, Tripp called me to let me know that the resort we were staying at for our Jamaican honeymoon had flooded. I’ve mentioned the word flood 3 different times and this is only by third blog post… seems like a trend to me?? Anyway – because our resort flooded, we obviously wouldn’t be staying there anymore and we had a couple of options. 1) Cancel our trip and get a full refund – ummm, heck no. We are going on a honeymoon. 2) Go to another Sandals resort in Jamaica and then get a free trip to any Sandals resort in 2011. I’m guessing you know which one we went with… what a great situation, huh? We were lucky.
So – just after our honeymoon, we started planning our anniversary trip. We chose Antigua since it didn’t require too much travel time back and forth and based on the raving reviews we had heard. The reviews were spot on – It.was.AMAZING.
We upgraded our room to have our own little hut and pool… which absolutely made the trip. The resort was also only 40% full when we were there, so it wasn’t crowded and we didn’t have to wait in lines. Ahhh… take me back now, please!
Because we both felt like pale marshmallows in our rockin’ swimsuits, we took 3 pictures that have the both of us in them. Sad. Pathetic. But, regardless of not having pictures to prove it… this was a trip we will never forget. We think it topped our honeymoon… which was pretty hard to do! Our daily routine basically consisted of laying out, eating, reading and eating some more. We were able to spend time with each other without the daily stress of normal life… and it was awesome. One of my favorite nights of the trip, we spent hours talking about our future outside by the infinity pool. Tripp was actually in the pool, but it wasn’t heated and I was a big baby about it being too cold…. Regardless, I was a happy girl that night and then entire trip.
We both aren’t big drinkers, we probably didn’t take advantage of our free full bar and butlers, but we had so much fun together. Lots of laughs and memories.
We would obviously like a yearly trip just the two of us to remain a Team Hollowell tradition from now on… we know it won’t always be to a tropical island for an entire week, but we do want to try to stick to this and make it happen every year. We haven't started planning this next year's trip, but we have some ideas.
Here are some pics that we do have from Antigua…
